Interactive Vendor Booths

Trade shows, conferences; there are always interactive booths, which seem to draw the most people to visit their booth. This is because people are more interested in being able to touch and see the product and interact with it as well as the sales person. This provides entertainment for the consumer compared to the simple use of a television screen with a slideshow showing the product and people using it.

Technology is a great tool, but that is what it is. A tool. It is not able to do anything without the use of a person using it in the proper way. With the use of technology and the capability of position of it, the help of sales people, technology is more effective. Music, or people talking on the slides will also attract more attention than just a slideshow with no audio. The purpose of technology is to add that extra value to what you are advertising. Use technology wisely and ensure it is used to the fullest.

RSS Feeds

It is common place for people to use RSS to keep up to date on things such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video. RSS standards for ”Really Simple Syndication”, it is an internet format used to publish frequently updated works. RSS is beneficial to readers who want to know when information has been updated on their favourite sites, without having to go and individually check each of them. Instead all their RSS feeds can be found all together in one common place.

To become a subscriber to a specific website, you can enter the website’s URL into a software like RSS Reader or one similar. Or you can click the RSS button, which is on some websites, usually found in the right hand corner. Next time your on your favourite site, look to see if there is an RSS button you can click, this will save you from visiting that site as often if there are no updates.

Facebook

Facebook is the new black. With this being said, people of all ages use Facebook to connect and communicate with friends, family and to reconnect with people they have lost contact with. This social networking site has grown and changed to meet it’s consumers needs and demands. It not only offers each person their own page, which is their profile where their friends can come and write on their wall. There is also a function that applies to event marketing, where you can go and create an “event” where you can write about what the event is going to be, where it will be, what time, etc. You also get the option of inviting whomever you would like, and only them or letting people invite themselves to the invite as well. Facebook will remind the attendees of the event about a week before that this event is coming up and will continue reminding them until the event has already ended. The creator and the administrators of the event are able to message all the attendees about new details, time changes and much more. This is a great tool, because with the popularity of Facebook it will reach many people in a short time period.

Green Movement

With everyone getting in on the Green Movement, which is being earth-friendly. Recycling bags instead of plastic bags, water bottles instead of plastic one time use water bottles, etc. This trend has been growing in popularity for many years, and many companies are adapting it to their campaigns. Technology, I think is helping with the Green Movement, by eliminating paper, therefore producing less waste. By sending out e-newsletters, having newspapers available online and so much more; people are more into using their phone or computers to gather information and keep up to date on the news.

This provides a lot of areas for marketers to advertise to many different segments of people within a specific region or even a wide space. When you know your target market, you will be able to see which area of the internet is best to advertise through instead of going with print advertising.

Ad Space

Within all major cities, there are tons of electronic screens in prime locations in which companies can advertise their latest promotions. The best part is that most people actually take the time to look at these ads. Not that much time, but enough time to see what company it is and what the product is.

At Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto, there are many screens all around the area which each advertise many different companies. This should be something that upcoming events look into getting. I have seen many signs at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre when there is an event happening, advertising that it is taking place inside, however they should reach broader into the population of Downtown Toronto to get more attendees. By advertising in the heart of Dundas Square, I think more people would see the signs than on Front Street about an event and would be interested on checking it out.

Webinars are online web conferences held with the purposes of conducting live meetings, training, or presentations via the Internet. People are able to join in the meeting with people all over the world, or even just within their office without leaving their desk. In our fast-paced world, more and more companies are using webinars when conducting their meetings. Technology has helped bring us closer to each other without having the expenses of physically being close. Event Marketers are able to bring this form of technology into consideration when planning specific kinds of conferences instead of holding a large expensive 1,2 or 3 day conference, they can consider holding an hour or so webinar, which could prove to be just as effective.

Email Promotions aka. Spam Emails

When is mass email not considered spam? Companies and events send out mass emails to their clients in order to inform us about their upcoming promotions or to let you know about the latest news and products they are offering. How many people actually take the time to sit and read what these emails say?

Events can email their attendees details of what the event will include, updates on guest speakers, vendors and much more. But the reality comes when the people attending are too busy to take the time to read in detail the entire email. If the email does get read, it is probably just skimmed over to get the general jist of it.

Promotional emails are a good idea, but I think they could be re-thought to be shorter and to the point and in a result might get better results.
